The Media Library is the single home for every image on your site — pages, blog posts, and galleries all pull from the same place.
Upload images
- Go to
Dashboard → Media Library. - Upload your images. Large files are automatically resized to a sensible maximum, and responsive sizes are generated for fast page loads — you don't need to pre-shrink anything.
- Organize images into categories if you like. Categories are just labels — you can create, rename, and reorder them at any time without breaking anything.
Add alt text
Alt text describes an image for screen readers and search engines.
- Select the image in the library (or in the picker).
- Fill in the Alt field, and optionally a caption.
You write alt text once per image — every page that uses the image gets it automatically. If you replace the alt text later, every use updates too. Good alt text is also an SEO win; see Improving Your SEO.
Set a focal point
If an image gets cropped differently in different spots (a wide banner here, a square card there), click the important point of the image in the picker or detail panel. Every crop across the site will keep that point in frame — set the face in a headshot once and every card and banner respects it.
Pick images in the page editor
You never upload directly into a page — every image spot opens the same picker:
- In the editor, click the image item, then click the image itself (or
Pick from media libraryif the spot is empty). - Choose an image from the library, or upload a new one right there.
- To remove an image, hover it and click the red X.
The same flow applies to blog featured images, gallery fields (which support multi-select), and any other image spot in the dashboard. Learn the picker once and you've learned it everywhere. See Editing Page Content for the editor basics.
Replace an image everywhere at once
When a logo, team photo, or product shot changes, you don't have to hunt through pages:
- In
Dashboard → Media Library, select the image and chooseReplace. - A confirmation shows exactly how many places the image is used across the site, so you know the blast radius before committing.
- Upload the new file. Every page, post, and gallery that used the image now shows the new one — browsers pick up the change automatically, no cache clearing needed.
Rename or move a file
Select an image and click the pencil icon next to its filename to rename it or move it to a different folder. Every reference on the site is updated for you.
Delete an image
Deleting also shows the usage count first. If the image is still in use, consider replacing it instead. When you do delete, the system cleans up every reference — a deleted image never leaves a broken picture on the public site.
Find and clean up unused images
Libraries get cluttered — images uploaded but never placed, a hero shot swapped out a week later, a batch import where half the photos were never used. To find them:
- In
Dashboard → Media Library, click Show unused in the toolbar. - The grid narrows to images that aren't referenced on any page, post, setting, or template. (An amber banner reminds you that an image you uploaded for later will show up here too — so glance over the thumbnails first.)
- Use Select all unused (or pick individual images) and then Delete Selected to clear them out in one pass.
It's safe to lean on this: the check is deliberately cautious. If an image is used anywhere — even baked into a design library row or a code snippet — it won't be marked unused, so you won't accidentally delete something that's live on your site. Anything still in doubt, replace rather than delete.
Tips
- Search before you upload. The most common library mess is the same image uploaded five times. Browse or search the library first.
- Write alt text as you upload, while you remember what the image shows.
- Blog post images work the same way — see Writing Blog Posts.
